Ronena J. Summers, M.A.
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with vast life experience as well as advanced clinical training in psychotherapy, gerontology, and mediation. To help individuals increase their overall well-being, I utilize principles of Mindfulness Meditation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and Mediation while discovering and facing patterns of behavior.
My career path leading to mental healthcare came out of a passion for helping people experiencing emotional setbacks from life transitions. After raising two children, including a son on the Autism Spectrum, I decided to return to school and received a Master of Science in Gerontology from the University of La Verne. I am a Credentialed Professional Gerontologist (CAP). I also received a certification as a Family Mediator from Lakewood University. Later my passion for counseling led me to receive a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mount Saint Mary’s University.
Every individual deserves the opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings openly and authentically. I understand that it can be difficult to admit that help is needed. I sincerely believe that individuals want to make positive changes in their lives and maintain healthy connectedness to others. The key to your success is motivation to change. We will work collaboratively to help identify, understand, and work through any unresolved issues ultimately giving you a chance to appreciate your true potential. My counseling style is non-judgmental, supportive, and empowering. My goal is to help alleviate emotional suffering and guide you to develop personal coping strategies. I offer a safe space where you will be listened to and personal growth is fostered. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy for those experiencing an array of mental health issues that interfere with having quality of life. There is hope!
As a Gerontologist and Mediator, I also specialize in eldercare mediation by empowering families to resolve conflict to restore and preserve relationships. I am available to present seminars entitled at the Heart of Aging covering a variety of topics for those who are facing challenges regarding healthy aging, life stage transition, adapting to retirement, loss of family and friends, stress management, decline in memory and cognitive functioning, depression, and anxiety.
